Gmail can hold an email and send it at a time you pick, on every platform. The steps take ten seconds. The part people get wrong is the time zone, especially when writing from India to someone in the US. Here is how to schedule, how to find and cancel a scheduled email, and the rule that decides when it actually goes out.

## How do I schedule send in Gmail?

Write the email, then instead of pressing Send, open the arrow next to it on the web or the `More` menu in the app and choose `Schedule send`. Pick a time. The email moves to the `Scheduled` folder until then. To change or stop it, open `Scheduled`, select it and tap `Cancel send`, which turns it back into a draft. You can hold up to 100 scheduled emails at once, according to [Google's help page](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/9214606).

## Schedule an email on the web

Nothing is sent yet. Until the chosen time, the email sits in `Scheduled`, and you can open it, cancel it and edit it as often as you like.

1. Open Gmail and click `Compose`.
2. Write the email as usual, including the recipients.
3. Click the down arrow next to `Send` at the bottom left of the compose window.
4. Click `Schedule send` and choose one of the suggested times, or set your own date and time.
5. The email leaves the compose window and appears under `Scheduled` in the left panel.

## Schedule an email on Android

Scheduled mail from the app appears under `Menu` then `Scheduled`, the same folder you see in the left panel on the web.

1. Open the Gmail app and tap `Compose` at the bottom right.
2. Write the email.
3. Tap `More` (the three dots) at the top right.
4. Tap `Schedule send` and choose a time.

## Schedule an email on iPhone or iPad

The iPhone steps match Android. These are the Gmail app's steps; if you read Gmail through another mail app on your phone, look for that app's own scheduling feature instead.

1. Open the Gmail app and tap `Compose` at the bottom right.
2. Write the email.
3. Tap `More` at the top right.
4. Tap `Schedule send` and select a time.

## See, change or cancel a scheduled email

There is no edit-in-place for a scheduled email. Cancelling is the only way to change the text or the time, and the cancelled email is a normal draft until you reschedule it.

1. On the web, click `Scheduled` in the left panel. In the app, tap `Menu` then `Scheduled`.
2. Open the email you want to change.
3. Click or tap `Cancel send`. The email becomes a draft again.
4. Edit it if needed, then use `Schedule send` again to pick a new time, or press `Send` to send it now.

## The trap: time zones and the 100-email limit

Scheduling is reliable. The assumptions people bring to it are not.

- Google's rule is that "Your emails will be sent based on the timezone you schedule them in." If you are in India and want an email to land at 9 am in New York, you have to do the conversion yourself and schedule it for 6:30 pm or 7:30 pm IST depending on US daylight saving. Gmail does not know where the recipient is.
- If you schedule an email and then travel, the send time does not move with you. It stays pinned to the zone you were in when you scheduled it.
- Scheduled emails may go out a few minutes after the scheduled time, so do not schedule something that must land at an exact minute, such as a deadline submission.
- The cap is 100 scheduled emails at once. If you queue a batch of follow-ups, the 101st will not schedule until one has gone out or been cancelled.
- A scheduled email is still a real send. There is no approval step at the scheduled time, and the undo window does not apply, so proofread before you schedule.

## Schedule send vs snooze vs a follow-up tracker

Schedule send delays an email you have already written. Snooze delays an email you received so it comes back later; see [Gmail snooze vs reminders](/gmail/snooze-vs-reminders). Neither tells you whether the email you scheduled got a reply. For that you need [Gmail nudges](/gmail/nudges-follow-up-reminders) or a tracker that watches the thread. Use schedule send when the timing of your message matters, snooze when the timing of your attention matters, and a tracker when you need to know who went quiet.

## The AI shortcut

Scheduling helps when you know what to send and when. The harder problem is remembering which scheduled follow-ups got no reply three days later. [Momo AI's follow-up tracking](/follow-up-tracking) watches every thread you sent, lists the ones still waiting in your morning brief, and drafts the nudge in your writing style to Gmail Drafts after the number of days you choose. You read it, tap Send, and Gmail sends it. Nothing goes out without your tap.

## Questions

### Where do scheduled emails go in Gmail?

They sit in the `Scheduled` folder, in the left panel on the web and under `Menu` in the Gmail app, until the time you chose.

### Can I edit a scheduled email in Gmail?

Not directly. Open it in `Scheduled`, tap `Cancel send` to turn it into a draft, edit it, then schedule it again.

### How many emails can I schedule in Gmail?

Google's help page says you can have up to 100 scheduled emails at once.

### Does Gmail schedule send use my time zone or the recipient's?

Yours. Gmail sends based on the time zone you were in when you scheduled the email, so convert to the recipient's zone yourself.
