"Free" means three different things in this market: free forever with limits, free trial then paid, and free because the product is new. Here is which personal AI assistants are free on 13 October 2026, what each free tier does and does not include, and how to pick one without paying.

## Which personal AI assistant is free?

Momo AI is free with every feature during early access, with Pro planned at ₹499 per month later. ChatGPT and Gemini are free for chat with usage limits. Fyxer, Shortwave, Inbox Zero and Zapia have free tiers that cut features or volume. Superhuman, alfred_, Clara and Lindy are trial-then-pay.

We make Momo AI, so read our placement of it with that in mind. Prices are from each vendor's own pricing page on 13 October 2026 and change often.

## Free tiers, side by side

## Free because it is new: Momo AI

[Momo AI](/personal-ai-assistant) is in early access, which means every feature is on and nothing is metered: drafts in your voice, follow-up tracking, scheduling by email, promises, triage, morning brief, attachments, five Google accounts. The honest caveat is the other side of "new": Google verification is still in progress, so you see an unverified-app screen at sign-in, and native mobile apps are in testing. The [pricing page](/pricing) says what Pro will cost and what stays free.

## Free with limits: ChatGPT and Gemini

For chat, writing and research the free tiers of ChatGPT and Gemini are genuinely good. What they do not do at any price is watch your inbox in the background. [Personal AI assistant vs chatbot](/blog/personal-ai-assistant-vs-chatbot) explains the gap.

## Free tier, paid features: Fyxer, Shortwave, Inbox Zero, Zapia

These are honest free tiers that work, with the useful parts behind the paywall or capped. Inbox Zero is open source, so a technical person can self-host the whole thing for free. Zapia's free plan is the most generous of the four if WhatsApp is where you live.

## What "free" should make you check

- Does the free tier train on your data where the paid one does not? Read the privacy policy. Momo AI trains on nothing at any tier.
- Can you export or delete everything when you leave? Momo AI has Delete everything in Settings.
- Is the limit on volume, on features, or on time? Time limits are the ones that surprise people.
- Who presses Send? Free or paid, this is the question that matters.
